This is pretty cool

General Patton's real voice. Man, what I wouldn't give to hear him give the original version of the original speech in his own voice. Not to denigrate George C. Scott's portrayal, but damn.

UPDATE: This is pretty cool too:

Hey, great video, Ken!

And they bring up memories. My father had two, ummmmm, "contacts", shall we say, with General Patton in North Africa. Dad was flying P38s with the 5th Air Force (IIRC, my notes are not immediately available) at the time.

The first one was at a movie. Apparently the Army had pre-empted some local theater (or similar building), and Dad was in a balcony seat. Once the movie was over, he heard what he described as a screeching voice (Dad might have said "high pitched", it's been a few years) down on the main floor, ordering the other soldiers out of the way, so he could leave. Yup, it was General Patton. The video you posted matches that description.

The second contact? Well, it wasn't quite so close, and likely a good thing that was the case.

Dad was on patrol over Sicily, and his flight leader spotted a bunch of tanks. IIRC, he said, "The tanks were north of a certain line, and we had orders to shoot anything in that area." There was no attempt to identify the model of the tanks, they just moved in and opened fire.

When they landed at their base, there was a message from General Patton (a personal one, I do believe), chewing them out for shooting up his tanks. Patton, you see, was never a general to let a plan constrain him. He had moved into the "free fire zone" without telling anyone.
